Tribute to Alan Turing

Alan Mathison Turing ( 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954 ) was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist.[6] Turing was highly influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general-purpose computer. He is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence.

For this second edition the WAICF is proud to pay tribute to him. Through an exceptional show and animations, the public is invited to discover the career, the work and the life of one of the founders of artificial intelligence.

ALAN – T Interdisciplinary show Palais des Festivals (Théâtre Debussy) February 10, 2023

The show Alan - T. is based on the life of the mathematician Alan Turing. A paradoxical life where scientific and social destinies collide with great violence. Alan Turing, an indirect hero of the Second World War, father of artificial intelligence, mathematical genius... and yet a victim of puritanical England because of his admission of homosexuality. Carried by the soprano Joanna Freszel, the actor Thomas Hauser (who plays the mathematician) and five musicians of the Ensemble Nadar, to which is added an electronic and video device conceived with Thomas Goepfer at Ircam, Alan T. conducts several discourses at the same time, in a true dramaturgical counterpoint. This musical biopic, a true opera of 80 minutes, is impressive in its sincerity, invention and sound creativity.

For the general public, the notion of artificial intelligence is reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which man and computer are engaged in a merciless battle. "Without going that far," says Pierre Jodlowski, the composer, "artificial intelligence establishes shared relationships. The composer feeds the machine with proposals and information that it processes before sending back solutions.
